The chair of "Technische Mikrobiologie" was established 1st October 1993 as a part of the "Faculty of Brewing, Food Technology and Dairy Science" of the "Technische Universität München". Since 2006 it is a member of the department for "Nutrition and Food Science" in the "Center of Life and Food Sciences Weihenstephan". The "TMW" logo refers to "Technische Mikrobiologie Weihenstephan". It is headed by the biochemist and Ordinarius Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Rudi F. Vogel.
